Building a New Septic Tank?

Want some Advice on Septic tanks

When installing a new septic tank you must make sure you install the septic tank at least 15m from your home and within 10m of a vehicle access point. This makes it easy for us to perform a septic tank emptying service as access to the chamber will be easy. Do not build on a slope as the septic tanks drain field could be releasing the waste water to the adjoining landowner.

What should a new septic tank come with?

The tank should have at least two chambers, which will need to operate in series. All materials used to help assembly the tank should be able to prevent leaking and ingress of subsoil water. The tank itself must be made from suitable material and be sound in structure. Most tanks will have a BBA certificate. It is also easy to forget when installing pipe work to make it easy to access, this makes jobs like desludging and drain repairs a lot cheaper if anything were to happen.

But before you go and install a septic tank you must make sure the drainfield is able to soak up the water. To test the area in which you want the drainfield to be you must do a soakaway test; this is where we would come with either a towable bowser or our massive 6,000 gallon tanker. This really depends on the size of the drainfield which is normally calculated is the number of people living in the property or the number of people at the site. The soakaway test is where fresh clean water is poured into the ground where it is timed to see how fast the water is soaked up. If the water takes too long to drain away or does not drain at all then you will not be allowed to build the drainfield there.

Don’t worry if the water does not drain away fast enough or at all, there are solutions. The main cause for water to drain slowly or not at all is there could be a layer of clay under the soil. You can get the soil check to see how big the layer of clay is. There are some solutions for clay but I would recommend finding a different spot.

When you have your new septic tank installed remember to have at least one septic tank empty a year. Tardis Environmental can provide a scheduled septic tank emptying service.

Septic tanks and Tankers

Septic tank and the types of waste a Vacuum tanker can take!

When you have a full waste tank or septic tank you will need to have a septic tank emptying service or waste removal service. Septic tanks normally have sewage or waste water inside them with minimal debris. This waste can be collected by a vacuum tanker, which is only designed to handle wet waste with minimum debris.

If you find that waste tank you have has more solid to liquid then you will need what is called a disab tanker. These tankers are specially designed to be able to handle dry waste, with their greater suction ability. They are also known as liquid ring tankers.

Septic Tank Emptying

How do you know if you need a vacuum tanker or a disab tanker?

First thing is to check the waste that is located within the septic tank. If there is a lot of liquid and it moves round like normal water, then you will probably need a normal vacuum tanker. If you find that the waste within the septic tank is very dry and solid (like wet sand) then you will probably need a disab tanker.  It is important to try and establish this before you ask for a normal septic tank emptying service as you will get charged for the wrong tanker.

You can get tanks that help separate the water from the solid debris into different layers. These are normally called silt tanks. They work by allowing the grit and sand to settle at the bottom of the tank which then allows the water to sit on top for easy suction and emptying.

If you are still not sure about the septic tank waste then you can request a call out service, this is where we will send out our experts who will check the waste and will be able to give you an accurate estimate on what tanker you will need to perform the service.

Tardis Environmental can provide both services nationwide. Call today and speak to our highly trained hire desk team who will help you get the right service for you.

Is your septic tank over flowing?

Need a Septic tank emptying service!

When summer finally arrives it’s important to get your tank emptied. So why would you have your tank emptied in the summer. There are a couple of reasons why you would have your septic tank emptied in the summer. First reason would be if you have a full septic tank filled with sewage and waste water the hot of the day will make the wet waste within the tank start to stink and could give of dangerous gas, also tend to use the toilet a lot more in the summer as you are drinking more liquids.

If you’re going to have a party and have a septic tank connected to your house, then it would be wise to have a tank emptying service before the party begins as the increased volume in wet waste could cause your septic tank to over flow in not emptied before the party.

So if you need a professional septic tank emptying service then give our hire desk team a call today. Need more information on all the services we can provide you.

Next we have our wash down tanker. These can do all the same things as our wet waste tankers but with the added benefit of being able to carry clean and fresh water that is kept separate from the contaminated water. The clean water can be used to wash down a septic tank after a septic tank emptying service has been performed or can be used to deliver clean water, which can be used to perform a welfare service.

Septic tank EmptyingWe have other tankers like our low vol jet vac tanker and our high vol jet vac tanker. These are the best for cleaning pump station and unblocking drains.Last we have the pressure washer tanker. This again can do all of the above but with the added power of a jetting lance. This can be used to clean light debris from a pumping station or clean a gully and grease trap.

Vacuum Tanker

Septic Tank Depth Greater than 6 Metres?

Normal Septic Tanks

The average domestic Septic tank has a depth no more than 5-6 meters, which can be emptied by a normal vacuum tanker. Even larger commercial septic tanks that can hold up to 15,000 gallons of sewage have a depth between 5-6 meters.

Septic Tank with depth greater than 6 metres!

If you have a waste tank that can hold waste water and has a depth greater than 5-6 meters. You will need a liquid Ring Tanker that can suck to depth of 30 meters – material dependant. These tankers are great if you need waste water to be sucked up from a depth greater than 6 meters.

No matter what wet waste you have whether it is domestic or commercial Tardis Environmental tanker fleet will get the job done.

If you need more information on liquid ring tankers give our hire desk a call for all the information you need.

Confined Space Information

Does your Septic tank need a confined crew?

What size is a confined space?

A confined space does not have to be a small space which is hard to enter and exit for it to be classed as a confined space.it can also be a large silo or tank that has limited or restricted access or if the space is badly ventilated like a large tunnel. The CSR (Confined Space Regulations) 1997 describes confined space as any place. This will include chambers, vat, silos, sewer, well and any other  confined spaces that has a foreseeable risk.

These are as follows:

  • Drowning of any person at work
  • Loss of consciousness of any person arising from a high ambient temperature.
  • Fire or explosion
  • Loss of consciousness or asphyxiation of any person at work arising from gas, fumes, vapour or lack of oxygen
  • Asphyxiation of any person at work arising from a free flowing solid

What Is P.P.E?

P.P.E is short for Personal protective equipment.

What are the types of personal protective equipment?

  • Respirators
  • Protective gloves
  • Protective clothing
  • Protective footwear
  • Eye protection
Equipment for confined space

How do you check if you have the correct P.P.E on?

First you must check the following, Does if fit correctly, are you comfortable, will the P.P.E interfere with the job that is being done, is there any health risk like entanglement with machinery or overheating of equipment.

Tardis will ensure that when a confined space entry is required it is supervised by at least one man. All Drivers will have all the necessary P.P.E equipment. All other equipment including breathing apparatus, ropes, harnesses, winches, carabineers and fall/rescue equipment will always checked before use.

So no matter if it’s a septic tank or a massive silo you can be sure that Tardis Environmental will get the job done.

Tardis Tankers Does Dancing on Ice

Our Vacuum Tanker Sucks Ice Rink Away

So now that ITV’s Dancing on ice is over you are probably thinking, what happens to the stage and ice rink!

Well the studios stay where they are but the Ice rink will have to be sucked away. This year Tardis Environmental has been asked by ITV to empty the ice rink with our Vacuum tankers. Our tankers took approximately 6000 gallons of waste water. Tardis Environmental will then dispose of the waste water at our nearest water treatment plant.

Here are some facts about Dancing on Ice studios!

The show has mainly been based at the George Lucas Stage at Elstree studios when it began back in 2006, but in 2011, the show was broadcast from shepperton studios. Dancing on Ice eventually moved back to Elstree Studios, but with a new modern studio.

The size of the Ice rink itself is a massive 30m x 15m. There are also different areas to the studio, the most known one is the tunnel were the Stars come out to dance on the ice. Then you have an area called The Ice Cave, this is where Philip does his interviews after each dance and finally you have the Judges and Contestant area (this is also where Christine stands to speak to the couples).

If you have a large volume of waste water non-hazardous or hazardous give Tardis a call on 0800 731 0589. What will the new Tractor Unit do?

The new tractor unit will be able to deliver our H2O Bulk Water tanks ranging from 4000-6000 Gallons of fresh water. The water can be used for soakaway tests, bulk water storage and clean water for a large welfare unit, where a mains water supply isn’t available.

6000 Gallons Bulk Water Tank Trailer

When not delivering our H2O tanks it can then are used as a 6000 gallon vacuum tanker. The Vacuum tank trailer has the capacity to carry 6000 gallons of wet waste with a suction depth of approx. 6 metres. This means it can suck up wet waste from a septic tank easy. Most domestic septic tanks can only hold 1000 Gallons of wet waste but some industrial septic tanks can hold much more than a 1000 gallons.
