Unfortunately we’re not talking about that kind of interceptor.

Interceptors are a common drainage installation on many industrial sites and car parks throughout the UK. Interceptors are often referred to as oil catchers, oil and water tanks, wash down pits or oil water separators.

Prudent environmental management requires oil and petrol interceptors to be regularly maintained and inspected.

The build up of silt, debris and oil in underground interceptors and drainage systems increases the risk of flooding and potential pollution of watercourses or sewage systems. Regular cleaning and maintenance of these will significantly reduce your risk and should be part of your preventative maintenance programme.

Our fleet of vacuum tankers are perfectly suited to service any of these applications. Tardis Environmental are a fully licensed waste carrier with disposal facilities throughout the UK.

Full duty of care paperwork is available on request as are our sat nav tracked records showing the location of the ethical and legal disposal sites we use.

As for the nitty gritty, our tankers carry 40 metres of hose as standard. More can be requested on booking, should you believe your interceptor is an awkward distance from where the vehicle can park.

If in doubt, a tape measure and a chat to our friendly and experienced hire desk team will set you on the right track.

Read the signs – Tardis are recruiting

They’re all over the place. Stop signs, no parking signs and signs telling you to give way.

Did you know there’s a reason a Give Way sign is an inverted triangle, when all other information (rather than must obey) signs are the other way up?

The answer being, if the sign is obscured by snow or mud, from its shape alone, you still know it is a Give Way sign, Highway Code and all that.

Currently, there are other signs appearing on our roads, but these aren’t issued by the Department of Transport.

All the leaves are brown and the sky is grey…

All the leaves are brown and the sky is grey, but Tardis is out there sweeping all the leaves away.Screen Shot 2014-09-12 at 11.39.18

OK, maybe we’ll never hit number one in the charts, but we’re definitely tops at this time of year with the autumn leaf drop.

Yes, they may look pretty with their rich autumnal hues, but a concentration of leaves can cause all kinds of problems. Trains running late, leaves on the line being just one.

As leaves get wet or start to decompose, they block drains and can create a hazardous slippery surface on roads and pathways. Windy weather leaves fly around and can cause a hazard to driving.

Hazards are best dealt with pronto which is where Tardis steps into the breach.

We’re fully equipped nationwide to deal with road sweeping needs and we don’t just mean leaves. Car parks, construction sites, factory roads and perimeters, forecourts to cattle grids.   Anywhere where light debris needs to be cleared you’ll find Tardis road sweepers cleaning up.

Our road sweepers feature:

  • single and dual sweep operation
  • High pressure water jetting lances
  • High pressure street washing facility

A vehicle common to our fleet is the Johnsons VT650 an 18 tonne gross weight machine which carries a pressure lance, two drain keys, one hydrant, an overhead boom arm 2 x safety warning road signs and a mounted pressure washer making it multi skilled to meet many challenges.

You can view and download the spec sheet for this machine by clicking here

As you’d expect from a leading operator in the business, all Tardis operatives will be equipped with the correct safety equipment as well as being fully trained in operational and safety aspects of the job at hand.

Your first step in arranging a clean sweep service is to call our friendly and experienced hire team on 0800 731 0589

One of the team will establish your needs such as time, place, period the machine is required to work over.

Please do take into account what you are asking us to dispose of. Recently a client failed to tell us of a large oil spill on a site. This is something that has to be dealt with in a different way environmentally to regular debris and the job could not proceed.

Worse still, the job attracted an aborted mission fee, which we hate having to apply. If you’re at all unsure about the conditions of the area that needs cleaning, please talk to us first.

Detritus is an all year problem made worse at this time of year by the annual leaf drop. So, when you’ve gathered up all your conkers, call Tardis who’ll breeze in and clean up the rest.

Septic Tank Emptying – Tardis goes through the motions

This is an operation best carried out than talked about, but we thought you might like to learn a little more about what goes on where angels fear to tread yet Tardis operatives work their magic every day.

Even in 2014, there are still a lot of homes and commercial premises which do not have mains sewage and waste disposal.

This everyday activity has to go somewhere and more likely than not, the property will be connected to a septic tank or cess pit.

You may wonder what the difference is. Well, they both hold waste water and the unmentionable stuff, but the main difference is a cess pit or pool has no access hatch and is normally sited above ground.

A septic tank is installed underground and for various reasons such as hygiene and durability is made from plastic, which of course won’t rust or decompose.

Lurking away in the subterranean darkness, your storage has three distinct layers.

The top layer is known as crud and will not decompose naturally. It floats on top of the waste water and is a very good reason to have a tank emptied at least once a year even if it is a low use facility.

The waste water layer comes below that and can exit through a T shaped outlet to a drain field or soakaway which filters through to the naturally occurring ground water level or water table.

The third layer is the part we’ll be less descriptive about just use your imagination.

A lot goes on in your septic tank once you’ve flushed goodbye…

Bacterial action breaks down solids into a mush. The planet as a whole is dependent on these little fellows, the circle of life and all that.

Because it’s advisable to maintain the levels of bacteria working away in your waste facility, use biocides like domestic bleaches, antibacterial soaps and washing up liquids by all means to keep your kitchen and bathroom clean and healthy, but be mindful of the fact their antibacterial action will still be working once you’ve flushed it away.

As we said earlier, a low usage facility say in a domestic property will benefit from being emptied at least once a year.

Higher usage facilities such as businesses, schools, sport facilities obviously have a higher traffic flow of people disposing of washing water, showering and spending a penny and so, maintenance required will be more frequent.

Booking a Tardis service.  0800 731 0589 a free number to call nationwide.

You’ll find yourself speaking to one of our friendly knowledgeable team, trained to advise on a host of environmental services.

Provide us with some basic information such as how far the access to the tank is from road or driveway, the approximate size of your tank and we’ll arrange for one of our shiny yellow and green Tardis tankers to arrive on a scheduled day and leave you with a nicely serviced and emptied tank.

It’s important we establish your needs before the day, so we send you the right sized vehicle. Please tell us about any obstructions between the arrival point and the tank access. For example, we need to know if there is an incline, because this can alter the efficiency of the disposal rate.

Is the hatch or access to the tank straightforward ? not locked or obscured by shrubbery or brambles for example. If we know all this in advance, the operation is sure to go with military precision.

Vacuum Tanker

We use a combination of vacuum and jet vac tankers, which range from 1500 gallon capacity to a 6000 gallon vehicle to meet the smallest to largest disposal needs.
