Confined Space Information

Does your Septic tank need a confined crew?

What size is a confined space?

A confined space does not have to be a small space which is hard to enter and exit for it to be classed as a confined space.it can also be a large silo or tank that has limited or restricted access or if the space is badly ventilated like a large tunnel. The CSR (Confined Space Regulations) 1997 describes confined space as any place. This will include chambers, vat, silos, sewer, well and any other  confined spaces that has a foreseeable risk.

These are as follows:

  • Drowning of any person at work
  • Loss of consciousness of any person arising from a high ambient temperature.
  • Fire or explosion
  • Loss of consciousness or asphyxiation of any person at work arising from gas, fumes, vapour or lack of oxygen
  • Asphyxiation of any person at work arising from a free flowing solid

What Is P.P.E?

P.P.E is short for Personal protective equipment.

What are the types of personal protective equipment?

  • Respirators
  • Protective gloves
  • Protective clothing
  • Protective footwear
  • Eye protection
Equipment for confined space

How do you check if you have the correct P.P.E on?

First you must check the following, Does if fit correctly, are you comfortable, will the P.P.E interfere with the job that is being done, is there any health risk like entanglement with machinery or overheating of equipment.

Tardis will ensure that when a confined space entry is required it is supervised by at least one man. All Drivers will have all the necessary P.P.E equipment. All other equipment including breathing apparatus, ropes, harnesses, winches, carabineers and fall/rescue equipment will always checked before use.

So no matter if it’s a septic tank or a massive silo you can be sure that Tardis Environmental will get the job done.

Tardis Tankers Does Dancing on Ice

Our Vacuum Tanker Sucks Ice Rink Away

So now that ITV’s Dancing on ice is over you are probably thinking, what happens to the stage and ice rink!

Well the studios stay where they are but the Ice rink will have to be sucked away. This year Tardis Environmental has been asked by ITV to empty the ice rink with our Vacuum tankers. Our tankers took approximately 6000 gallons of waste water. Tardis Environmental will then dispose of the waste water at our nearest water treatment plant.

Here are some facts about Dancing on Ice studios!

The show has mainly been based at the George Lucas Stage at Elstree studios when it began back in 2006, but in 2011, the show was broadcast from shepperton studios. Dancing on Ice eventually moved back to Elstree Studios, but with a new modern studio.

The size of the Ice rink itself is a massive 30m x 15m. There are also different areas to the studio, the most known one is the tunnel were the Stars come out to dance on the ice. Then you have an area called The Ice Cave, this is where Philip does his interviews after each dance and finally you have the Judges and Contestant area (this is also where Christine stands to speak to the couples).

If you have a large volume of waste water non-hazardous or hazardous give Tardis a call on 0800 731 0589. We have over 15 years’ experience in dealing with wet waste and have a highly modern fleet of vacuum tankers with all the latest safety equipment not to mention all the drivers are highly trained with constant training all year round. This is to ensure we are always ahead of the competition  We have been awarded FORS bronze and our drivers are EUSR Trained in water hygiene.

Need a portable toilet for hire?

Portable toilets

What would you need a portable toilet for?

There are some many different portable toilets for hire you may not know which one you need to hire. First off the two main groups of portable toilets are Construction and event toilets. The Construction Toilet has to have a wash basin that is able to wash both hands and forearms.

Construction Toilet

Event toilets are made from stronger plastic due to the volume of use. These are the two main toilets we hire out. If you are working near a mains supply you can hire out a portable toilet that can be connected to the mains sewage system.

Event Toilet

Got a large event and worried about how many toilets you will need, and then try our Tardis toilet calculator.

You could also hire out a disabled toilet. Our disabled toilet can also have a baby changing facility if you are running an event that could have babies attending.

Disabled Toilet Hire

Want to cut down queuing time for the toilets for your customers? A portable urinal will help cut queuing times down. You could either have a 6 bay urinal or a 4 bay urinal. These are perfect for events and festivals that are selling alcohol.

Portable Toilet Hire

Don’t Just Hire Portable Toilets for an Event!

When you have a large event you will need Portable Event Toilets. How many you need is depending on many factors like will there be alcohol served and how long is the festival or event. The Longer the festival is, the more Portable toilets you will need. Normally you will need to add around 15% of the amount of Toilets you will need if alcohol is being served.

What other options are there?

The last thing you want is your customers to do is queue and wait to use the Portable toilets
you have provided them. The maximum acceptable waiting line is around 10 people. To help minimise this and keep your event flowing. I would recommend hiring out some portable urinals.

Single 4 bay white

This will help cut queues down. You can have portable Urinals come in either 4 bay or 6 bay portable urinal. They have a large waste tank and can also come with a Tardis screen.

Water Hygiene Card

What is EUSR?

The National Water Hygiene scheme has been developed at the request of Water UK who is the representative for the water supply companies across the whole of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The blue National Water Hygiene card was introduced in January 2006 to replace all water company specific hygiene schemes and removes the need for workers to undergo separate testing, health screening.

If any person working on a restricted operations sites such as service reservoirs, pumping stations, treatment works, wells, spring and boreholes and working on the network of water mains and service pipes must be in possession of a EUSR National Water Hygiene card.

This is why Tardis Environmental has trained all our drivers to be EUSR trained in Water Hygiene. What does it mean for you? This will mean we can deliver fresh water (Not drinking Water), which will be safe to use. We can deliver up to 6000 gallons of fresh water with our water tank. Need less I have other tanks like our H20 Bulk water tank that can hold up to 4000 Gallons of bulk water?

When not delivering our H2O tanks it can then are used as a 6000 gallon vacuum tanker. The Vacuum tank trailer has the capacity to carry 6000 gallons of wet waste with a suction depth of approx. 6 metres. This means it can suck up wet waste from a septic tank easy. Plastic vs. Steel Waste Tanks

Which is Better Plastic or Steel Waste Tanks?

What are Waste Holding Tanks?

Waste Tanks are basically tanks that hold waste. Waste tanks are usually located underneath a welfare unit or a Portable Toilet Block and will collect any waste water. The Waste water could be from the toilets or even the sink from the canteen of the welfare unit.

Why Choose a Steel Waste Holding Tank over a Plastic Waste Tank?

waste tank

  1. Our own mild Steel Waste Holding Tanks are made from 4mm – 6mm mild steel.
  2. We can fabricate Waste Tanks in all sorts of different sizes from our smallest 50 gallons tank all the way up to 1500 Gallons
  3. Can be placed under a welfare unit unlike a plastic waste tank.
  4. Convenient Lifting Eyes.
  5. Will not get damaged being moved about or get a split from over use. Which could leak toxic waste water into a river and pollute and kill the surrounding wildlife, which would then mean that the EPA could step in and take you to court and fined!
  6. 6inch inspection hatches to allow easy waste removal
  7. Steel Waste Tanks can survive any weather. Plastic tanks if full can split and leak in the winter.
