Portable toilets and winter

Can you Stop the Water in a Portable Toilet from freezing?

You have hired a portable toilet or even gone and bought one yourself a portable toilet. You’re probably worried about the coming water and what it will do to the toilet.

Some people will tell you to pour some antifreeze in the waste tank to stop it from freezing. This will help stop it freezing up to a point, but this will also mean that instead of the waste water just being normal sewage waste, it will have to be treated as chemical waste, which could incur a further charge as it is different waste water and will need to be disposed of differently.

The best way to prevent the waste water in a portable toilet from freezing is to use salt as this will lower the freezing temperature of the waste water inside your portable toilet. But you can’t stop water from freezing so don’t be too upset if the water freezes salt and antifreeze only lowers the freezing temperature.

You should be able to ask your portable toilet supplier for advice, or ask them to come out and put some salt in the waste tank.

After searching the internet I came across this YouTube video of portable toilet pranks and thought as it’s coming up to Christmas why not.

Cesspool or Septic Tank?

What the difference between a Cesspool and Septic tank?

Well to tell the truth there’s not a lot  of difference between a cesspit/cesspool or septic tank. They both hold sewage or wet waste and both need to be emptied on a regular basis.

The only difference is a septic tank is buried under ground and sealed by a hatch and slowly separates the waste water into three layers and then release the waste water layer through some perforated pipes that will then soak into the groundwater level.

A Cesspit or Cesspool is basically made from loose brick or stone, which is dug into the ground, the normal size of a cesspool is around 1 metre in diameter and approximately 2-3 metres deep. They would also leak waste water back into the groundwater. Back in the 16th century cesspits were cleaned only at night to avoid annoying the public with the smell.

This is why septic tanks are mainly used for domestic and commercial wet waste.

Here at Tardis Environmental we can empty both Cesspit/Cesspool and Septic tanks, with our vacuum tanker fleet and highly trained tanker drivers. With Nationwide Coverage and a 24hr Emergency callout you can be sure that Tardis will get the job done.

Septic Tank Emptying

Why Should I have my Septic tank Emptied?

This is the one Question we get asked the most and the best answer I can give you is to have your septic tank emptied once a year by a trained professional. Why should you have it emptied every year? this is to prolong the life of your septic tank.

How much can your tankers carry?

We have a wide range of vacuum tankers from our 18ton which can carry up to 2000 gallons of liquid waste, our most common tanker the 26ton which has a capacity to carry 3000 gallons, if that’s too small then you could have our 32ton, which can carry up to 4000 gallons and finally our flagship the 44ton artic tanker which will take wet waste up to 6000 gallons.

What Length hose do your tankers carry?

Our tankers normally or should carry 40 metres of hose, but when I spoke to the drivers they all pretty much said they carry 60 metres. But if you feel you need more than 40 metres then please ask us to bring more. The max hose we can carry is 100 metres.

What is the max depth your tankers can vacuum from?

The max depth our tankers can vacuum from is 6 metres this is around 20 feet.

Crane Falls in Septic Tank!!!

Police and fire-fighters where call out to Walton Road residence on Friday afternoon after a crane working on a tree removal project tipped over on its side, narrowly missing the home and residence.

Thankfully No one was injured in the accident, the accident occurred after 1 p.m. at a home on Walton Road, according to Police Chief who answered the call.

An investigation into what had showed the crane tipped over because one of its stabilizers had been placed on an in-ground septic tank.

Apparently the stabilizers on the truck punched right through the septic tank, which caused the crane to tip.

The smell of the ruptured septic tank system was pretty evident when police and fire fighters arrived at the scene.

Dan Hurley, owner of the Crane Company, said the truck had remained on the spot all day until the stabilizer punched through the septic. Hurley said crews had only one tree left to remove when the truck tipped.

“I wasn’t aware we were sitting on a septic tank,” he said. “It wasn’t marked on the paperwork.”

White said fire-fighters were on scene to make sure no hydraulic fluid spilled from the truck.

Another crane had to be brought in to help right the original crane back into position.

Need a Septic tank Emptying service then let one of our expert vacuum tanker driver’s help with their years of experience on wet waste removal and disposal?

Dog Falls into Septic Tank!!!

A Dog Let it’s Curiosity get the better of it, as the dog fell down into a septic tank on Tuesday In Palm Beach County.

The dog’s name was Shelly, the 11-year-old Delray Beach family’s pointer, stirred up the neighbourhood on election night when the 96-pound pooch fell into an open septic tank and prompted a rescue by Delray Beach Fire Rescue and Palm Beach County Fire Rescue.

Video of dog being Winched out of septic tank

The Septic tank hatch was left open because it was being repaired by a septic tank operator. Luckily most of the wet waste was sucked out before Shelly fell into the tank.

When the family found their beloved pooch, Shelly was sitting in feces, 6 feet below ground.

Rescue crews arrived a short time later. It was unclear if Shelley was hurt.

Crews quickly donned on their high Vis yellow protective suits, orange boots and a harness.

Emergency workers set up a tripod and winch system, which is typically used to rescue dogs. A worker descended into the tank and wrapped Shelley’s body in the harness, then attached it to the tripod.

Another worker manned a crank from above and hauled Shelly out of the hole.

Luckily Shelly appeared unharmed.

Tardis Have just employed a new Health and Safety Manager so accidents like this don’t occur when we perform a septic tank Emptying service

Toilet facts you may not have known!
