Make sure your portable toilets are serviced!

Providing the right amount of toilets for your guests is essential however it is also paramount to make sure they are kept clean and in full working order.

This is mainly the case at long events such as festivals. Whilst guests will be grateful you have provided them with portable toilets, and maybe even some showers. After a while if the toilets are not serviced they will not be happy, and may look for alternative methods of going to the toilet, meaning the bush, the fence, or a plastic bottle in a tent.

Many people complain about portable toilets at festivals being dirty and near enough over flowing, whilst at the festival the guests will probably be drinking, increasing the amount they go to the toilet and decreasing the amount they care about where they go or the stat of the toilet they end up in.

It is down to festival organisers to ensure that toilets are kept in a hygienic state, portable toilet companies will recommend how often the toilets should be serviced and it is up to event organisers to decide how often they will be serviced.

Tardis Environmental have been providing portable toilet hire to events for over the past decade, we understand the needs of our customers and can offer a weekly service included in the hire cost to ensure you portable toilets are kept clean and in full working order.

If you are organising an event be sure to contact Tardis for a quote and we will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Thames Gateway Project

Tardis Environmental are used to helping on the big projects going on in London, such as the Olympics and the cross rail project and the Thames Gateway development is another project we are happy and proud to be helping out with.

For those who don’t know the Thames Gateway is the UK’s largest development programme, it aims to provide London with the space to grow. The project continues the growth of greater London and the southeast, this growth is crucial to the future prosperity to the Greater South East and the United Kingdom as a whole.

Background

The Thames Gateway is the latest indicator of the renewal of the Thames Estuary. Together with the Government’s plan to rebalance the economy of the UK/England, it is the Thames Gateway that offers the chance to enable sustained development of London and the South East. It is an area with supreme growth potential, presenting a range of opportunities including:

  • Proximity to London
  • Transport links via the Channel Tunnel Rail Link to Europe and the rest of the UK
  • Significant volume of brownfield land that could be redeveloped for housing and business
  • The presence of key sites with the potential to provide significant numbers of new job

Compared to the rest of the Greater South East the Thames Gateway is still lagging behind in economic terms.

There are several key projects that will deliver significant growth in the Thames Gateway and involve cross-Government facilitation:

Stratford and the Olympic Park – The Government is investing £9.3 billion in London 2012 related projects

London Gateway – The investment of £1.5 billion by DP World will generate 36,000 jobs in total – of which 12,000 jobs will be created in the medium/long term.

Crossrail Project – Work has started on the £16 billion Crossrail link, which joins the Thames Gateway with central London

While helping with the redevelopment of the Thames Gateway we have provided portable toilet hire, regular water fills, and tank emptying. Having our services regularly required in London is a testimony to our growth and level of service, we continue to ensure our vehicles are up to date with all safety standards and that customer’ expectations are exceeded. We pride ourselves on the level of service given and repeat customers reflect this.

Hose Pipe Ban Lifted? Still Need water Bowser hire?

Could the end of the hose pipe ban be near?  There was a lot of controversy and confusion surrounding the hosepipe ban, and I’m not sure how many actually stuck to it never the less  the end of the ban looks to be a lot closer than previously thought!

Richard Aylard, sustainability director for Thames Water has said ‘The record spring rainfall has eased the situation considerably,’ he also confirmed that confirmed that water levels were now at the expected seasonal level, with reservoirs still full. Which is good news for anyone effected by the ban. He also had this to add ‘Unless the weather takes ‘an unexpectedly Saharan twist’, the ban is unlikely to last until the end of summer.’

Two other water companies Anglian Water and Southern Water are thought to be in a similar position thanks to all this heavy rain which has been appearing throughout April and May which have boosted river and reservoir levels.

However there is still no set date to when the ban will be lifted. But with the rain set to continue throughout the coming months it does stand a good chance it will be lifted sooner rather than later.

So if you are still affected by the hose pipe ban Tardis Environmental can help you!

We offer water bowser hire which will supply you with a constant flow of water, or if you are affected by the heavy rain, and your tanks are full or man holes are overflowing  we offer a full range of wet waste removal services such as septic tank emptying, road sweeper hire, drain unblocking and other drainage services.

World Wide Toilet etiquette

All over the world toilets come in different shapes and sizes, if you have ever been abroad you may have been subject to some of these variations and been abit taken back by what different countries have as the normal practice when it comes to toilets. This blog will look at some of the weird and wonderful toilet etiquettes from around the world!

Paying to use public toilets

The main purpose of a public toilet is to ensure that our right to privacy, dignity and hygiene is catered for. Why should you have to pay for them?  You may have been a victim of this if you were in Europe or South America; it’s even started popping up around the UK at places such as train stations. Better make sure you have the right change!

Squat Toilets

You may find the idea of these quite off putting. Squatting toilets are mostly found across developing countries. They are pretty much just a hole in the ground, however if you have ever been into a really dirty bathroom and found yourself lining the seat with toilet paper or maybe even squatting over it to avoid any skin contact then what’s the difference? With these squat toilets there is no skin contact, there is also no water which means no nasty bacteria ridden splash back. Although, these toilets are insanely smelly with a lot of balance required.

Festival Portable Toilets

We have supplied portable toilet hire to festivals and large events many times before; when we deliver the toilets they are in tip shop shape as standard. However when we collect the units it’s quite different. What would you expect though with thousands of dirty, sweaty possibly intoxicated guests using them daily? If you have been to a festival you know the challenges you face when needing the toilet.

Toilets on Traveling Vehicles

If you’re travelling, especially for a long period of time you know eventually you will need the toilet, if you’re driving somewhere you may have to hold it till you’re at the services. However if there are on-board toilets you may decide to brave it and use one. However with Swerving, speed bumps, abrupt stops, turbulence and whatever else, may be abit trickier than you think.

Don’t flush the toilet paper – put it in the bin

Some countries do not have the sewage infrastructure to handle toilet paper. You may have been on holiday where this was the case, it’s quite common in Greece. This is not the best scenario, especially if you’re away with friends!

Japan – the definitive toilet

All of the above examples relate to difficult, messy experiences with toilets. However, Japan seems to have the toilet experience figured out completely. If every toilet was like the ones in Japan, the world would be a better place. From seat warmers to buttons that create a flushing noise for the direct purpose of muting any embarrassing noises that you may cause along with many other little gadgets, what more could you want?

Festival Season Is Nearly Here!

On Friday I shall be travelling down to Manchester to head to the Parklife Weekender, which kicks off my summer of festivals!

High profile festivals such as Glastonbury have had to postpone for the year due to reported shortage of portable toilets because of the Olympics and various other reasons

But for those still going ahead it is during this period event organisers will be making sure that everything is in order and all preparations have been made.

It is a very nervous time for many event organisers as they hope everything goes to plan. There will be things they have control over, and things they don’t. One thing that event organisers do have in their control is ensuring that event sanitation is at its best!

This is where Tardis Environmental can help!  We have many years of experience dealing with event sanitation. The Olympic Torch

On the 30th June the Olympic torch will be passing through Bloxwich, where our head office I based so we are all waiting in anticipation to get a glimpse of this iconic symbol. With this news I thought it would be appropriate to do a little research into the Olympic flame, and here’s what I found!

The ancient Games

The Torch and Relay were important elements of the cultural festivals surrounding the Olympic Games of Ancient Greece.

During the Games, a sacred flame burned continually on the altar of the goddess, Hera. In addition, heralds were summoned to travel throughout Greece to announce the Games, declaring a sacred truce for the duration.

Spreading the light from Greece: the modern Games

There is a very precise ritual which has to be followed when lighting the torch. It is lit from the sun’s rays at the Temple of Hera in Olympia, in a traditional ceremony among the ruins of the home of the ancient Games.

The torch is then part of a short relay around Greece, and then handed over to the new Host City at another ceremony in the Panathenaiko stadium in Athens.

After this the flame is then transported to the host county where it is then passed from one Torchbearer to another, spreading the message of peace, unity and friendship. Once the torch has reached the end of its journey the last torchbearer will light the cauldron and the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony in the Olympic Stadium, marking the official start of the Games.

The Flame is extinguished on the final day of the Games, at the Closing Ceremony.

The route of the Olympic torch has been well documented in the papers ever since it started, and there has always been large crowds following it. Where ever there are crowds of people, portable toilet hire should be considered! You may even be throwing a Torch party to celebrate the passing of the torch through your local community. Also for any events closer to the Olympics Tardis portable toilet hire can provide temporary sanitation facilities for your guests. We have a large range of portable toilets suitable for any event.
