In any event or festival, it’s nice to be noticed

Your event or festival well covered by Tardis

It’s been a busy summer with an event or festival occuring almost weekly and plenty yet to come. We’re covering a large carnival in Leicestershire weekend of the 5th and a week or so ago, we were up north at an 80s festival which suited our tanker captain down to the ground because that’s his favourite music.

80s fest

Servicing the facilities at the 80s fest

For us this was a toilet and service event which went smoothly.

If we’re lucky (and we Brits are eternal optimists), we’ve another couple of months of summer weather left to make the festival season really special.

We were delighted to receive this letter in the post a few days later

Glastonbury spells the end for the Tardis Toilet ?

Tardis portable toilets

The eponymous Tardis toilet

There’s been a lot in the media of late about Glastonbury, the world’s biggest music festival. One story which caught our attention was the decision of the organisers to stop using the traditional “tardis” loo in favour of greener and more organic sanitation.

To clarify, Tardis Environmental hasn’t broken its longstanding relationship with Glastonbury’s organisers, in fact the week before last, we were there delivering waste tanks to the site, which many of the toilets and shower units drain into.

A lottry load of Tardis waste tanks arrives at Glastonbury

Like any responsible organiser who’s activities make an environmental impact, Glastonbury are employing methods in many of its areas of operation to minimise the environmental impact on the land where the festival takes place each year.

We’ve supplied Tardis loos for 25 years

We were amused and somewhat flattered, when even Chris Evans on the radio referred to the toilets on the site as Tardis toilets, nice to think the item on which our company was founded 25 years ago is becoming as familiar a term as something say “Hoover”.

Here come the facts…

There will still be 5000 toilets on the Glastonbury fields including more than 700 metres of urinals they’ve even got these for ladies now, we kid you not.

As you know, we’re in the business of disposing “the business” nationwide 365 days a year, so our methods are ethical and legal and well documented.

Here’s a link to how we go about it around the land, showing how it is all disposed of at authorised STWs (Sewage Treatment Works) all controlled by electronic fob ID, the waste measured graded and properly processed.

The first Glastonbury festival took place in 1970 and was headlined by T Rex (which many of our readers will be too young to remember but Keith says were great as he saw them live in 1974).

All residents in the nearby village of Pilton get a free ticket to the festival.

1987 was the year of the trouser thieves. Hundreds of pairs stolen from tents and their pockets picked by miscreants.  Next day, the site was awash with trouserless people, though later the garments were found discarded in a muddy ditch.

In 1987, 2,485 miles of toilet paper was on site which is enough to stretch from London to Baghdad, though attendees had other uses for it.

The now famous pyramid stage made its debut in 1981 and originally was constructed from telegraph poles and corrugated metal. The rest of the year, it doubled as a cow shed.

This year’s line up includes: Adele, Coldplay, Jeff Lynn’s ELO, New Order, ZZ Top who only Keith in the Tardis office knew !  Art Garfunkel and many others who he’d not heard of.

Unlike the good folk of Pilton, us Tardis bods did not get free tickets, so we’ll be watching it at home on telly with a bottle of Tizer or two.

If you’re amongst the lucky ones to be there, send us some pics.

Event Portable Toilets

Are you planning an event this autumn season? Need event portable toilets? Yes it may not be Summer any more, but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t reasons to throw an event. May that be a Halloween themed event of even for Bonfire Night there is still plenty reason to be celebrating.

We are way into the month of October now and with Halloween only being at the end of the month as well as having Bonfire Night coming soon too. You may be planning  an Halloween event or a firework show, in which suitable event portable toilets for your event, are very important in keeping the guest happy.

Here at Tardis Environmental we provide event portable toilets for events of all sizes may that be family occasions, village fetes or larger events such as music festivals across the UK. Meaning no matter on the size of event you are planning this season there will be a solution for you.

For information on the range of our event portable toilets we offer please visit our website. However if you are still unsure we are happy to go through any queries you may have to make sure that you are fully satisfied. For example we will help you with advising on the amount of toilets you will need for your event. We also have an interactive portable toilet calculator which is another method to seeing how many event portable toilets you will need for your event. Click here to have a look at the toilet calculator.  This will help make sure that there is no queues, with keeping the amount of queuing in mind alongside portable toilets, portable urinals can also be hired in order to provide a convenient solution for male users. Introducing the Tardis Toilet Calculator

Ok so maybe a bit over the top but we’re excited to share our new interactive toilet calculator with our readers. It’s already proving to be very helpful.

Here at Tardis Environmental we understand it can be a stressful task organising an event or festival, with so many things to arrange. We are already receiving enquires about events for 2016! When organising larger events with a high attendance expected it can become even more confusing.

We are always asked, ‘how many portable toilets do i need?’. In order to make organising sanitation for your event as stress free as possible, we’ve put together a guide that will answer this question for you.

There are a number of factors that can effect the number of portable toilets required, with these factors included in the new toilet calculator. An important influencing factor is the consumption of alcohol, as this will increase the usage and therefore the number of portable toilets required.

The only other information you will be asked is the maximum attendance of your event and the duration of your event (measured in hours).

We’ve also included a calculator for construction sites.

Click here to take a look and let us know your thoughts.

For further assistance contact our hire desk team on the usual phone number 0800 731 0589.

Don’t forget, we can offer the complete event sanitation service from portable toilet hire, water bowsers and waste tank hire.

Out and about with Tardis…

Jon, one of our stalwart tanker drivers has been busy with his camera – he gets all the best locations!

Last weekend, Saturday 1st August, was the Leicester Caribbean Carnival. We delivered a mixture of portable toilets and urinals to the event.

Jon took some cracking pictures, though he wasn’t involved in the carnival action (he’s put away his Carmen Miranda outfit until next year), he has a job to do after all.

Last week he was despatched to Edgbaston Cricket Ground in the shiny new MAN Euro 6 tanker with 2500 gallon waste capacity and 1000 gallon clean water capacity. (See the blog we posted last week!)

Hiring a portable toilet – what do I need to know?

Here at Tardis Environmental, we like to make everything as simple as possible for our clients.

In this post, we have answered a number of important questions which should be considered when hiring a portable toilet, portable disabled toilet, portable shower or portable urinal unit.

Is there adequate access for delivery of the units?
When hiring a portable toilet or other units from the range we offer, the delivery vehicle will depend on the quantity ordered, delivered using a 3.5 ton, 7.5 ton or 7.5 ton vehicle with trailer.

Hiring a Portable Toilet

Portable Toilets going out for delivery

Where will I site the unit/units?
When hiring a portable toilet, the unit will need to be sited where our drivers can easily drop off and collect.

If there is a wall or other obstacle in the way, then a crane-mounted lorry may be required for delivery and collection. Please inform us if this is the case at the time of ordering.

Do I need water, electric and foul waste connection?
Tardis cold wash portable toilets do not need any connections, but may require servicing if on hire for a long period of time or have numerous users.

Tardis hot wash portable toilets require a 240v 16amp connection to an electricity source.

Tardis portable shower units also require a water source and run off for the waste, as well as a 240v 32amp electricity supply.

Additional services?
Tardis cold wash portable toilets are self-contained requiring no additional plumbing or connections. Portable showers and hot wash portable toilets do however require a connection to external services.

We can supply a fully qualified Tardis plumber or electrician to complete the necessary connections. Please talk to the hire desk at the time of booking for more details.

Are the units going to be safe?
We recommend that units are delivered and sited in a location where they are less likely to be stolen or vandalised.

Please be aware, that whilst our units are on hire to you, you are fully responsible for any damage that may occur.

How many portable toilets do I need for my event?
It is important to consider the number of toilets you will require in ratio to the number of people attending your event.

If you are unsure of the numbers, our hire desk are here to help, with experience in both small and large events, we can advise the unit quantities most suitable to your event.

What will be supplied with the toilet?
The portable toilets will be delivered with toilet roll and hand sanitizer, unless sink fitted and we will also supply paper towels.

Once the initial supplies run out, it is your responsibility to replenish consumables unless you have requested us to replenish consumables.

When will we collect the toilets?
We will try to collect the units as soon as possible after the hire period has finished. Please allow up to 5 working days for collection. During this tine, the units are still the responsibility of the customer.

Summer is here!

It’s been a busy year already here at Tardis Environmental with the planning of festivals and events across the UK.

From portable toilet hire to drinking water delivery, we’ve got the festival and events season sorted.

Now the Summer has officially started in Britain, we thought we would have a look at exciting events to come.

This weekend, one of the UK’s largest music festivals, Glastonbury takes place. We have already delivered 45 waste tanks to the site in preparation for the music festival to begin.

Glastonbury Waste Tanks Delivery

Glastonbury Waste Tanks Delivery

Our waste tanks are available for both sale and hire, are the ideal temporary waste storage device, and can be buried or sited beneath toilet blocks, shower blocks, canteens, etc.

The next event on the calendar is the Silverstone Grand Prix taking place between 3rd and 5th July. On a recent post, we mentioned the portable toilets we would be delivering to a nearby camping site.

Portable toilet hire is probably what we are best known for. Our self-contained portable toilets do not need a connection to any other service so are ideal for events of all sizes and all locations. We would however recommend servicing to keep them hygienic and fresh.

Portable toilet Hire

Along with portable toilet hire, we can also offer portable urinals providing a solution for male users. Our 4-bay and 6-bay portable urinals would reduce the queues significantly, giving visitors more chance to enjoy the goings on.

For a complete sanitation system, particularly for events taking place over a few days, portable shower hire is also available. This would allow for people to stay fresh and clean throughout. Waste from the portable shower units can then be dispensed into a drain, soakaway or your could hire a waste tank.

On the second weekend in July, we will be delivering yet more portable toilets – to the Hyper Japan Festival held at the O2 as well as 10 waste tanks to the Milton Keynes Bowl, a Live Nation event.

Finally, on the 1st August the Leicester Caribbean Carnival takes place. If you are attending, look out for Tardis portable toilets!

How else can Tardis Environmental help?

Many festivals and outdoor events are situated where there is no access to a mains water supply. At any event the availability of clean drinking water is important.

We already offer event water supply to many types of festivals and events nationwide.

Whether you chose to hire a water bowser or water tank, require delivery of clean drinking water to existing water storage on site or would prefer bottled drinking water – we have an event water supply to suit your needs.

Summers calling – Tardis Hire at the ready!

With summer upon us, this means a busy time of year here at Tardis Hire, with the festivals and events season now well underway.

Last week you may have read our article on Tardis Hire going to Glastonbury, we recently delivered 45 waste tanks to the site ready for the festival. Whether a small local event or larger festivals across the UK, we’re more than happy to help with events of all sizes.

From portable toilets to bulk bottled water, we’ve got it covered!

There’s more to consider about portable toilets than you might think, and almost a necessity at any outdoor event. It is essential to pick the right toilet for the job. If you are unsure of the right number of portable toilets required at the event, we can work it out in relation to the number of people at who will need facilities at your event. We will even take into account the alcohol that will no doubt be consumed!

Clean Portable Toilets

Portable Toilets

Want to cut the queues at the loos? Portable urinals are also available for the male festivalgoers out there with 4 and 6 bay urinal units, an ideal space and time saving fix at larger events.

For more information on the range of portable toilets we offer, visit our website.

Keeping your customers hydrated is also important, especially in the sun (although unlikely in Britain one might add). Another facility needed for events and festivals is therefore fresh drinking water. So if you have a stall at a festival selling bottled drinking water, we sell the wet stuff by the pallet! No matter the size of your gathering, we have the H2O needed to keep everyone happy and hydrated throughout.

If bulk bottled drinking water doesn’t take your fancy, you might be interested in our new drinking water fill station – also featured in another article a few weeks back.

Water Fill Station

Drinking Water Fill Station

This innovative little invention connects to a water supply in minutes, such as a drinking water bowser or tank that we can also supply. This will allow up to 4 people to fill up bottles or buckets at a time, leaving more time for the more fun stuff.

Waste tanks for Glastonbury

It’s a logistical nightmare to prepare a well organised festival for 175,000+ revelers, caterers and musicians alike.

We’ve been there before, got the T shirt and we’re there again this year.

A total of 45 waste tanks 600 gallon capacity some of which you can see being delivered by big yellow and green Tardis lorry.

The festival’s come a long way since 1970 when 1,500 people paid a pound a head to see T Rex. Now, it’s part of the nation’s summer events calendar.

Another load delivered

Here’s some facts and figures from 2014.

5,000 loos on site

700 metres of male urinals

£ 210.00 the cost of a standard ticket (a bit more than seeing T Rex).

3 million litres of water will be consumed and that’s just from the taps provided. Bottled water will make the figure double.

1,300 recycling volunteers cleaning up the mess.

400 cows who live on the site normally are moved out of harm’s way for the festival duration

You’re not allowed to wee in the bushes. The organisers have patrolling officers looking for offenders.

Of course, this is where Tardis Hire and our waste tanks come in.
