Last day of Land Rover Defender production

68 years after production of the classic model began; the last Land Rover Defender will roll off the production line in the West Midlands, today January 29th 2016.

The four wheel drive vehicle has been produced since 1948 in Solihull by various owners including British Leyland, BMW, Ford and now Tata through Jaguar Land Rover (JLR).

The Defender, which got its name in 1990, represented the continuation of the very first Land Rover modeled on the wartime jeep.

Since its launch, more than 2 million Land Rovers and Defenders have been sold, with 308 model derivatives. The Defender has featured in films such as James Bond movie Skyfall, has been a long-running supplier to the royals as well as a vehicle used by British troops.

The Land Rover was originally marketed as the “go anywhere” vehicle option, “for the farmer, the countryman and general industrial use”.

JLR are now working on a replacement for the Defender.

Tardis now has ten of the recognisable off-road vehicles in our fleet.

Tardis says it’s CHRISTMAAAASSSS !

It’s accepted we all like a good rest at Christmas and a mince pie or two, but gremlins never rest and someone has to be on call to deal with them.

Although the Tardis crew will be putting up their Christmas stockings hoping for everything they deserve, the operation is a 365 day a year affair and we will be available for emergency call out.

The same number as usual and the same level of service applies.

one number

We really hope you won’t need us, but we’ll be there if you do.

Thanks for being with us through 2014 and for following our blog, Twitter feed and Facebook page.

We really enjoyed your pictures of Tardis toilets and tankers you spotted out on location, even on the telly. Keep sending them in and we’ll keep featuring them. For meritorious contributions, we have been know to post out some Tardis goodies as reward, so just keep that in mind.

We plan to continue running humorous features and expanding our instructional videos like our recent Crossrail compliant video, which was very well received.

And of course, when the occasion rises, we’ll be dressing up rather like we did in our onesies for Children in need and our wooly pullies for Save the Children.

New tanks on the blog

It’s barely a fortnight ago that we were crowing about our new Euro 6 tankers and our natty rear wheel steer tanker and here we are again with three new additions to our fleet.

We’ve not had the livery applied to these yet, but we wanted to announce our new mid-range 16000 litre clean water delivery tankers.

This tanker is ideal for bulk water deliveries, wash downs, soakaway testing, site water and event water supply, in fact anywhere where clean water is needed.

We also hire petrol driven water pumps, delivering the wet stuff via 2” Bauer fittings. We can supply pipework as required.

Full specification here.

Our health and safety officer not only checks sites to make sure that our drivers are safe but the general public are safe as well and that our drivers are keeping within H&S guidelines and rules.

Flood Warning!

Need a Fast Response to Flooding!

If you’re in a high-risk flood area, then Tardis Environmental can help weather you’re a domestic or construction customer.

The met office has issued out warnings and alerts for known areas that are at risk of flooding. So what can we do to help prevent or even minimize damage caused by flooding?

We have a large fleet of vacuum tankers that can take large amounts of wet wastewater to help alleviate possible damage caused be flooding. Some of our tankers can also have a high vol jet vac that can clean your drains from leafs and debris that may slow the rate the floodwater gets drained.

Tardis Environmental also has industrial water pumps that can move the wastewater from a flooded area to a drain or river that is not flooded.

The WX10 and WH20 water pumps are useful for small jobs like filling small water tanks and increasing water pressure.

The WB20 and WB30 are great for moving large amounts of water with small debris within the water.

Now the WT20 is probably the best bet to move waste water as it can handle large amounts of water and large sized debris up to 24mm.

WRAS Approved Water Tanks and Bowsers

WRAS Approved Water Bowsers

Did you know that Tardis Environmental have WRAS approved products?

So what does WRAS approved mean

WRAS means The Water Regulations Advisory Scheme and for a product to be WRAS approved it demonstrates that the item complies with the high standards that the water regulations promulgated back in 1999 for the United Kingdom. So you now know that our WRAS approved water bowsers and water tanks come at a high standard.

 What does WRAS cover?

WRAS covers all plumbing systems, water fittings, water bowsers, water tanks and any equipment that is going to supply water from the public water supply.

Water Bowser

Is it a illegal requirement to have WRAS products?

No it is not illegal to install a product that is not WRAS, but you may need to have proof or prove the compliance in other ways. No WRAS approved products are mainly used in areas where human health could not be compromised. We can provided WRAS approved piping and fitting along with our highly trained Tardis plumber.

How can you tell if its WRAS Approved?

On all WRAS approved there should be a WRAS approval number this is a way of proving that the product is WRAS approved. But even if for say the water bowser is WRAS approved if it was installed or operated incorrectly then this might breach the water regulations 1999. Don’t worry we have a Tardis Plumber who knows all about WRAS installation and operation.

Water Bowsers

What can water bowser be used for?

Water bowsers can come in all shapes and sizes depending on what you would use the water bowser for.

Water bowsers have many uses

1,000 IBC Water Bowser

Small 1,000 litre water bowser is many used to supply small amount of water to a small welfare unit or just to help water the garden. When these water bowsers are filled with water there total weight is 1 ton, which can then be used as a marquee weight if you have to build your marquee on tarmac.

500 gallon static

Water Bowser Hire

New Static Water Bowser

Our 500 gallon water bowsers can be used for supplying water to a welfare unit, or can be used as a main water supply, if no mains water is available for companies like hydro demolition who need lots of water to perform their jobs.

500 gallon towable water bowser

The 500 gallon towable bowser is pretty much the same as the static bowser, but is placed on a towable trailer. With it’s off road tyres it is the ideal choice for construction sites that need to move the water bowser around the site. The towable water bowser can also be fitted with a dust suppression kit.

10,000 Litre large Water Tank

This is many used for sites that are contracted to be at a site over a long period. Can also supply large amounts of water to large welfare units. It’s also the choice of most hydro demolition companies as it holds vast amount of water. With its new easy refill tap, our drivers can do a water refill with ease.

All our drivers are EUSR Water Hygiene trained to give you that piece of mind, when refilling the water supply.

Building a New Septic Tank?

Want some Advice on Septic tanks

When installing a new septic tank you must make sure you install the septic tank at least 15m from your home and within 10m of a vehicle access point. This makes it easy for us to perform a septic tank emptying service as access to the chamber will be easy. Do not build on a slope as the septic tanks drain field could be releasing the waste water to the adjoining landowner.

What should a new septic tank come with?

The tank should have at least two chambers, which will need to operate in series. All materials used to help assembly the tank should be able to prevent leaking and ingress of subsoil water. The tank itself must be made from suitable material and be sound in structure. Most tanks will have a BBA certificate. It is also easy to forget when installing pipe work to make it easy to access, this makes jobs like desludging and drain repairs a lot cheaper if anything were to happen.

But before you go and install a septic tank you must make sure the drainfield is able to soak up the water. To test the area in which you want the drainfield to be you must do a soakaway test; this is where we would come with either a towable bowser or our massive 6,000 gallon tanker. This really depends on the size of the drainfield which is normally calculated is the number of people living in the property or the number of people at the site. The soakaway test is where fresh clean water is poured into the ground where it is timed to see how fast the water is soaked up. If the water takes too long to drain away or does not drain at all then you will not be allowed to build the drainfield there.

Don’t worry if the water does not drain away fast enough or at all, there are solutions. The main cause for water to drain slowly or not at all is there could be a layer of clay under the soil. You can get the soil check to see how big the layer of clay is. There are some solutions for clay but I would recommend finding a different spot.

When you have your new septic tank installed remember to have at least one septic tank empty a year. Tardis Environmental can provide a scheduled septic tank emptying service.
