Sky’s the limit for portable toilet delivery

Tardis Environmental are proud as Punch to announce they are the first environmental company to begin deliveries of portable toilets to site by drone.

Portable toilet delivery by drone

Five years in the development to get the mechanics right. Squadron leader Ade Boydon said today, “We’ve finally cracked the weight issue by removing the liquid element in the portable toilet unit prior to delivery. Further weight reductions have been achieved by employing a carbon fibre toilet seat and thinner toilet paper”.

“A revolutionary new powdered bio-chemical compound is part of the delivery, the client simply adds plain tap water and BOOM, you’ve a fully operational portable toilet”.

At the moment, due to the CAA ruling on drone activity near airports, we are unable to operate a delivery by drone service inside the M25 circle or within 5 miles of any major airport.

Drone deliveries are set to commence on Saturday April 1st launching from our Cannock Road depot in Wolverhampton.

The maiden flight will be marked with a ceremony where a bottle of Prosecco will be broken against the hull of the flying Tardis toilet prior to take off.

Route and destination details will be programmed from Tardis mission control in Brownhills where state of the art fly by wire navigation equipment has completed testing.

For further details of this revolutionary delivery service click here or telephone the flight desk on 0800 731 0589.

If you need a portable toilet or shower for your New Year’s party, book it now

If you’re planning a bash to see in 2017, depending on the location you may want to think about the facilities, especially when your guests are knocking back the Tizer like it’s going out of fashion.

When we’re quoting our events clients who are expecting hundreds or even thousands of visitors to their event, we always ask if there will be alcohol served as this increases demand on toilet facilities.

Tardis portable toilet hireSo, even if your New year party is just twenty or thirty people, imagine the number of people all wanting to use the loo after a few sherbets.

There’s still time to arrange a portable toilet for an event at home or on a larger scale.

We’ll discuss you needs, make our recommendations and then you can relax in the knowledge that you’ve catered the perfect party. One where there’s no loo queue.

If you’re organising say a rugger event where the lads outnumber the lasses, we’ve urinal units. Our 6 bay even comes in its own little tent.

The Tardis crew will be operating nationwide at normal capacity until 5 o’clock on Friday 23rd of December, when it’ll be time to put on the glad rags and party with the rest of you.

Of course, we still have the emergency cover, but for things like toilet hire, we do suggest you arrange your delivery well in advance so everything is in place and all you have to do is PARTY HARD.

One of our hire desk girls was curious when talking to a Scots client.

“Is anything worn under the kilt” she enquired.

“Nay, it’s all in working order” came the reply.

Finally, wherever you are, have a wonderful new year and here’s to a fantastic 2017.

In any event or festival, it’s nice to be noticed

Your event or festival well covered by Tardis

It’s been a busy summer with an event or festival occuring almost weekly and plenty yet to come. We’re covering a large carnival in Leicestershire weekend of the 5th and a week or so ago, we were up north at an 80s festival which suited our tanker captain down to the ground because that’s his favourite music.

Servicing the facilities at the 80s fest

For us this was a toilet and service event which went smoothly.

If we’re lucky (and we Brits are eternal optimists), we’ve another couple of months of summer weather left to make the festival season really special.

We were delighted to receive this letter in the post a few days later

Tardis celebrates 25 years in business

25 years of Tardis

Life was different back then

Back in 1991, a loaf of bread cost 54 pence and a pint of milk 32p. Beer was £ 1.37 a pint and Tardis Environmental arrived on the scene in a much smaller form that it is today.

Our ops director Rob as one of the founders of the company, had a shuffle through his shoebox of memories and provided some pictures of the kind of vehicles the company began with and used throughout the 90s.Tardis 25 years

Tardis 25 years

25 Years ago, tankers were a lot less sphisticated

Tardis 25 years

How we’ve grown

The company started out with 2 people and now employs over a hundred at 8 depots around the country.

There are no secrets to how we became the fastest growing environmental company in the UK. Just sheer hard work and a mantra of putting the customer first.

We study our industry closely, anticipate and meet regulatory requirements including environmental, Health & Safety, water hygiene to name just three.

In 2015, the company split off water related service to a new division called Tardis H2O on site and rather like the distinctive Tardis vehicles, the tankers are easily spotted on Britain’s roads.

Both the company and the equipment it uses have come a long way in the 25 years of operation.  Today’s fleet is modern and well equipped to deal with the demanding tasks the environmental and bulk water industries demand.

Oddly, whilst the shape of vehicles may have changed over the quarter century, portable toilet design remains quite similar. Here’s to the next 25 years.

Glastonbury spells the end for the Tardis Toilet ?

Tardis portable toilets

The eponymous Tardis toilet

There’s been a lot in the media of late about Glastonbury, the world’s biggest music festival. One story which caught our attention was the decision of the organisers to stop using the traditional “tardis” loo in favour of greener and more organic sanitation.

To clarify, Tardis Environmental hasn’t broken its longstanding relationship with Glastonbury’s organisers, in fact the week before last, we were there delivering waste tanks to the site, which many of the toilets and shower units drain into.

glasto delivery.jpg

A lottry load of Tardis waste tanks arrives at Glastonbury

Like any responsible organiser who’s activities make an environmental impact, Glastonbury are employing methods in many of its areas of operation to minimise the environmental impact on the land where the festival takes place each year.

We’ve supplied Tardis loos for 25 years

We were amused and somewhat flattered, when even Chris Evans on the radio referred to the toilets on the site as Tardis toilets, nice to think the item on which our company was founded 25 years ago is becoming as familiar a term as something say “Hoover”.

Here come the facts…

There will still be 5000 toilets on the Glastonbury fields including more than 700 metres of urinals they’ve even got these for ladies now, we kid you not.

As you know, we’re in the business of disposing “the business” nationwide 365 days a year, so our methods are ethical and legal and well documented.

Here’s a link to how we go about it around the land, showing how it is all disposed of at authorised STWs (Sewage Treatment Works) all controlled by electronic fob ID, the waste measured graded and properly processed.

The first Glastonbury festival took place in 1970 and was headlined by T Rex (which many of our readers will be too young to remember but Keith says were great as he saw them live in 1974).

All residents in the nearby village of Pilton get a free ticket to the festival.

1987 was the year of the trouser thieves. Hundreds of pairs stolen from tents and their pockets picked by miscreants.  Next day, the site was awash with trouserless people, though later the garments were found discarded in a muddy ditch.

In 1987, 2,485 miles of toilet paper was on site which is enough to stretch from London to Baghdad, though attendees had other uses for it.

The now famous pyramid stage made its debut in 1981 and originally was constructed from telegraph poles and corrugated metal. The rest of the year, it doubled as a cow shed.

This year’s line up includes: Adele, Coldplay, Jeff Lynn’s ELO, New Order, ZZ Top who only Keith in the Tardis office knew !  Art Garfunkel and many others who he’d not heard of.

Unlike the good folk of Pilton, us Tardis bods did not get free tickets, so we’ll be watching it at home on telly with a bottle of Tizer or two.

If you’re amongst the lucky ones to be there, send us some pics.

Introducing the Tardis Toilet Calculator

Ok so maybe a bit over the top but we’re excited to share our new interactive toilet calculator with our readers. It’s already proving to be very helpful.

Here at Tardis Environmental we understand it can be a stressful task organising an event or festival, with so many things to arrange. We are already receiving enquires about events for 2016! When organising larger events with a high attendance expected it can become even more confusing.

We are always asked, ‘how many portable toilets do i need?’. In order to make organising sanitation for your event as stress free as possible, we’ve put together a guide that will answer this question for you.

There are a number of factors that can effect the number of portable toilets required, with these factors included in the new toilet calculator. An important influencing factor is the consumption of alcohol, as this will increase the usage and therefore the number of portable toilets required.

The only other information you will be asked is the maximum attendance of your event and the duration of your event (measured in hours).

We’ve also included a calculator for construction sites.

Click here to take a look and let us know your thoughts.

For further assistance contact our hire desk team on the usual phone number 0800 731 0589.

Don’t forget, we can offer the complete event sanitation service from portable toilet hire, water bowsers and waste tank hire.

Portable Toilet Troubleshooting Guide

Very occasionally, a few problems occur when using portable toilets. We’ve put together a quick guide to help you get them back up and running as soon as possible.

Safety Warning

When you open the toilet unit, you are working in an unsanitary environment. Please ensure you wear appropriate PPE before engaging in even the most minor maintenance operations.

Common problems encountered with portable toilets and how to troubleshoot them.

If the toilet won’t flush properly, lift the lid on the waste tank.

You will see a 1″ pipe with a plastic mesh bag hanging from the gusher pump. It is fastened to the pipe by a jubilee clip.

Occasionally, the pipe assembly will become loose. Affix this by pushing the pipe and the bag on the underside of the pump.

If the pipe is still fixed in place, check for splits. If a split is discovered a new pipe and mesh bag will have to be ordered/supplied.

Portable Toilet Troubleshooting

Less common – If the pipe and bag are in good working order, check below the gusher pump for the condition of the black circular tubular diaphragm. If this is damaged, a Tardis engineer will be required to repair it.

Less commonly, with heavy use, two other issues occur. The toilet paper can cause the filter to become blocked. One sign of this is the flush handle becoming stiff to operate. If this happens, you will need to call a Tardis engineer to repair the problem.

If the flush handle has been operated aggressively, the mechanism may snap. The flush handle will move around with no resistance and the flush will not operate. In this instance, you will also require an engineer to repair it.

Very occasionally, the nozzle shown below can become blocked. The best solution if this happen, is to clear it with a jet lance.

Hiring a portable toilet – what do I need to know?

Here at Tardis Environmental, we like to make everything as simple as possible for our clients.

In this post, we have answered a number of important questions which should be considered when hiring a portable toilet, portable disabled toilet, portable shower or portable urinal unit.

Is there adequate access for delivery of the units?
When hiring a portable toilet or other units from the range we offer, the delivery vehicle will depend on the quantity ordered, delivered using a 3.5 ton, 7.5 ton or 7.5 ton vehicle with trailer.

Hiring a Portable Toilet

Portable Toilets going out for delivery

Where will I site the unit/units?
When hiring a portable toilet, the unit will need to be sited where our drivers can easily drop off and collect.

If there is a wall or other obstacle in the way, then a crane-mounted lorry may be required for delivery and collection. Please inform us if this is the case at the time of ordering.

Do I need water, electric and foul waste connection?
Tardis cold wash portable toilets do not need any connections, but may require servicing if on hire for a long period of time or have numerous users.

Tardis hot wash portable toilets require a 240v 16amp connection to an electricity source.

Tardis portable shower units also require a water source and run off for the waste, as well as a 240v 32amp electricity supply.

Additional services?
Tardis cold wash portable toilets are self-contained requiring no additional plumbing or connections. Portable showers and hot wash portable toilets do however require a connection to external services.

We can supply a fully qualified Tardis plumber or electrician to complete the necessary connections. Please talk to the hire desk at the time of booking for more details.

Are the units going to be safe?
We recommend that units are delivered and sited in a location where they are less likely to be stolen or vandalised.

Please be aware, that whilst our units are on hire to you, you are fully responsible for any damage that may occur.

How many portable toilets do I need for my event?
It is important to consider the number of toilets you will require in ratio to the number of people attending your event.

If you are unsure of the numbers, our hire desk are here to help, with experience in both small and large events, we can advise the unit quantities most suitable to your event.

What will be supplied with the toilet?
The portable toilets will be delivered with toilet roll and hand sanitizer, unless sink fitted and we will also supply paper towels.

Once the initial supplies run out, it is your responsibility to replenish consumables unless you have requested us to replenish consumables.

When will we collect the toilets?
We will try to collect the units as soon as possible after the hire period has finished. Please allow up to 5 working days for collection. During this tine, the units are still the responsibility of the customer.
