For rail welfare servicing call the experts

Here at Tardis Environmental we’re no strangers to railway welfare servicing. A large number of our tanker fleet are fully Crossrail compliant and our reputation in this field already speaks volumes.

When you consider there’s 9788 miles of networked railway in Britain which is pretty high maintenance, with our expertise working in the environment, we are closely involved with railway maintenance companies.

As Europe’s biggest construction project, Crossrail is working towards reducing journey time and easing congestion in London and the South East with the new railway covering 100km stretching from Reading and Heathrow in the West across to Shenfield and Abbey Wood in the East.

You may have read in previous blog posts that a large part of our vehicle fleet is Crossrail compliant, a necessity when working with the Crossrail project but also many other high profile construction projects where more than a cap is doffed to health and safety issues.

Crossrail vehicles carry signage alerting road users especially cyclists and pedestrians, to approach the inside of the vehicle with extreme care. HGVs have under run barriers and Sidescan equipment which senses proximity on the dangerous nearside of a vehicle in motion and provides the minimum of an audible alert in the cab though Tardis vehicles carry a video camera monitoring system so the driver can clearly see any approaching potential hazard. Vehicles which are not equipped to this high specification standard are not allowed to enter or work on Crossrail sites.

Some of the services were offer to railway maintenance companies include tank empties, portable toilet hire, welfare servicing, waste tank hire, portable shower hire, water bowser hire and water fills.

MAN enough for the job…

Just arrived this morning, our new MAN Euro 6 waste tanker which has a 2500 gallon waste capacity and 1000 gallon clean (non drinking) water capacity.

The vehicle has a pressure washer and is fully Crossrail compliant meaning it has all the modern safety features to allow use on busy Crossrail sites in London.

This includes a system which auto senses pedestrians or cyclists passing in the nearside of the vehicle, the driver is alerted with a tone and sidescan cameras activate so he can see who or what is in the blind spot.

We’ve a short video presentation on Crossrail compliance which you can watch.

We receive a lot of e mail and calls about our distinctive Tardis fleet and now it just increased by one.

Tardis says it’s CHRISTMAAAASSSS !

It’s accepted we all like a good rest at Christmas and a mince pie or two, but gremlins never rest and someone has to be on call to deal with them.

Although the Tardis crew will be putting up their Christmas stockings hoping for everything they deserve, the operation is a 365 day a year affair and we will be available for emergency call out.

The same number as usual and the same level of service applies.

one number

We really hope you won’t need us, but we’ll be there if you do.

Thanks for being with us through 2014 and for following our blog, Twitter feed and Facebook page.

We really enjoyed your pictures of Tardis toilets and tankers you spotted out on location, even on the telly. Keep sending them in and we’ll keep featuring them. For meritorious contributions, we have been know to post out some Tardis goodies as reward, so just keep that in mind.

We plan to continue running humorous features and expanding our instructional videos like our recent Crossrail compliant video, which was very well received.

And of course, when the occasion rises, we’ll be dressing up rather like we did in our onesies for Children in need and our wooly pullies for Save the Children.

Tardis and the Crossrail project

Crossrail, the largest engineering project in Europe and Tardis has been part of it.

In a nutshell, Crossrail is 73 miles of railway set to serve London and the south east, improving journey times and connecting with many existing lines.

As a supplier of goods and services to the project, Tardis Environmental have invested heavily in our fleet to make them “Crossrail compliant”. This includes the provision of safety equipment that is additional to the level we already send our vehicles to work carrying.

44tonne tanker

Fresnel lenses for example, smaller but similar to those found in lighthouses in this instance they are used to bend light allowing a driver to see personnel or cyclists approaching on the inside blind spot.

Side scan detection is now standard Crossrail  equipment, designed to detect cyclists or pedestrians in close proximity to the nearside.

In practice, audible tones or warnings exterior to the vehicle are triggered when the left hand indicator is activated and should there be a person detected in the field of the scan, the driver inside the cab is alerted by audible tone also.

Some side scan systems have the added safety of exterior cameras greatly reducing the chance of a mishap.

In addition, warning livery is added to the vehicle as are under run bars down each side.

Woe betide any contractor who fails to meet the high standards lain down by Crossrail. Exclusion from all sites and fines meted out often being the penalty.

Safety is in everyone’s interest. Our spec sheets detail our Crossrail compliant vehicles which of course can be used elsewhere, where stringent safety is practised.

Read the signs – Tardis are recruiting

They’re all over the place. Stop signs, no parking signs and signs telling you to give way.

Did you know there’s a reason a Give Way sign is an inverted triangle, when all other information (rather than must obey) signs are the other way up?

The answer being, if the sign is obscured by snow or mud, from its shape alone, you still know it is a Give Way sign, Highway Code and all that.

Currently, there are other signs appearing on our roads, but these aren’t issued by the Department of Transport.

Septic tanks and Tankers

Septic tank and the types of waste a Vacuum tanker can take!

When you have a full waste tank or septic tank you will need to have a septic tank emptying service or waste removal service. Septic tanks normally have sewage or waste water inside them with minimal debris. This waste can be collected by a vacuum tanker, which is only designed to handle wet waste with minimum debris.

If you find that waste tank you have has more solid to liquid then you will need what is called a disab tanker. These tankers are specially designed to be able to handle dry waste, with their greater suction ability. They are also known as liquid ring tankers.

Septic Tank Emptying

How do you know if you need a vacuum tanker or a disab tanker?

First thing is to check the waste that is located within the septic tank. If there is a lot of liquid and it moves round like normal water, then you will probably need a normal vacuum tanker. If you find that the waste within the septic tank is very dry and solid (like wet sand) then you will probably need a disab tanker.  It is important to try and establish this before you ask for a normal septic tank emptying service as you will get charged for the wrong tanker.

You can get tanks that help separate the water from the solid debris into different layers. These are normally called silt tanks. They work by allowing the grit and sand to settle at the bottom of the tank which then allows the water to sit on top for easy suction and emptying.

If you are still not sure about the septic tank waste then you can request a call out service, this is where we will send out our experts who will check the waste and will be able to give you an accurate estimate on what tanker you will need to perform the service.

Tardis Environmental can provide both services nationwide. Call today and speak to our highly trained hire desk team who will help you get the right service for you.

Septic Tankers types

Tardis have 3 different types on septic tankers for Septic tank Emptying

Did you know that Tardis Environmental have three different types of Septic tankers.

First Vacuum Tanker is our normal wet waste tanker. This is great for septic tank emptying and cesspool/cesspit emptying.  Tardis have different sized wet waste tankers ranging from our 18 ton to our massive 44 ton vacuum tanker.

Septic tank emptying

Next we have our wash down tanker. These can do all the same things as our wet waste tankers but with the added benefit of being able to carry clean and fresh water that is kept separate from the contaminated water. The clean water can be used to wash down a septic tank after a septic tank emptying service has been performed or can be used to deliver clean water, which can be used to perform a welfare service.

Septic tank EmptyingWe have other tankers like our low vol jet vac tanker and our high vol jet vac tanker. These are the best for cleaning pump station and unblocking drains.Last we have the pressure washer tanker. This again can do all of the above but with the added power of a jetting lance. This can be used to clean light debris from a pumping station or clean a gully and grease trap.
